Term Meaning
AAA see Flak
Auger in Slang for hitting the ground
Boom and Zoom or BnZ A tactic which exploits a fighters energy advantage to make hit and run or hit and climb attacks on an opponent.
Bot Short for robot. A computer or AI controlled aircraft.
Butcher bird Nickname for the FW-190
Clear a teammate has shot down an enemy aircraft shooting at you or chasing you
Cat Nickname for the F6F Hellcat

Energy tactics The use of energy or 'E' in dogfighting. Energy can either be kinetic (speed) or potential (altitude). When using energy tactics, the goal is to keep your plane at a higher energy state than your opponent. The plane with higher can engage or disengage at their discretion, effectively controlling the fight.
Eff Term used by players to announce a stupid move that got themselves killed
FFA Free For All, a fight with no friends - everyone for themselves.
Flak Acronym for Fliegerabwehrkanone, or "airplane defense cannon". The anti-aircraft artillery fire seen over enemy bases.
Frank codename given the the Ki.84 'Hayate' by the americans during WW2
Furball Slang for a close-in dogfight
Gone West Term commonly used in the aviation world to say that some one has passed away. It refers to a memory aid taught to all new pilots learning about magnetic deviation when navigating. "East is least but west is best."
Hog Nickname for the F4U Corsair
Kangaroo Nickname for the FW-190
Limiter Nickname for the Stall Limiter. Some pilots use the stall limiter but most experienced pilots don't. When you first start flying, it is much easier to fly with the stall limiter on but you eventually want to be able to fly with the limiter off.
OMW On my way. Usually uttered by a wingman who is coming to the aid of a comrade.
Pony Nickname for P-51D Mustang
Rip or Ripped Refers to 'ripping a wing off' an aircraft. This is fairly common in SkyFighters, and happens either when pulling back to hard on the stick or pulling too tight a turn for the airframe to handle while moving fairly quickly or by diving to very high speed.
Rope a Dope A tactic where a high energy aircraft lures an opponent on their tail into a steep climb. After both aircraft run out of airspeed the positions are reversed; the attacking aircraft is now on the defense.
RTB Returning to base - usually uttered by a wingman who is returning to base for repairs.
Runstang or runner Derogatory name for mustang pilots who use their speed advantage to disengage from a fight
'SA' Situational Awareness. The act of knowing (or not knowing) where other aircraft are around you
'Six' or 'Check six' Look behind you (6:00 position on an imaginary clock with 12:00 straight ahead) as there's someone on your tail.
Train or Gravy Train when one player is being chased by another player, the player chasing player 1 is also being chased by yet another player and so on.
Turkey Shoot A game where human opponents fight AI flown aircraft usually in a 2v6 or 3v5 format.
Turn and Burn or TnB A fighting style that employs mainly flat turns to gain an advantage over an opponent. Turning tends to "burn" up energy so it can be difficult to remain in the fight for long using this method.
Vulture Someone who attacks an aircraft that is on the ground or has just taken off. This is generally frowned upon and is considered bad manners.
Zeke Nickname for the A6M Zero. This was the official Allied code name of the A6M during WW2.
Bastard The victor of a dogfight
