Playing Online

- Mostly complete -

So, are you tired of playing the game in single user mode? Done all the missions and want to see how you stack up against others? Playing online is LOTS of fun. But, our Macs aren't readily setup to allow online playing. There's a few configuration steps to go through.

SkyFighters 1918 and 1945 use two ports to talk back and forth between the hosting computers and joining computers, as well communicating to Don's game server that lists the game publicly so you can see the game. Those two ports are 6667 and 12301.

Ok....I've not tried this (I'm officially on 10.5 and the screens are different). But, it should work. If not, please feel free to update this page.

Setup for 10.4.x:

Open system prefs

Click on firewall

Click on new

Click on other

Leave the TCP Field blank

Put 6667 in the UDP Field

Give it a name like 'SkyFighters1'

Click OK.

Repeat for the other port

Click on new

Click on other

Leave the TCP field blank

Put 12301 in the UDP field

Give it a name like 'SkyFighters2'

Click OK.

Close System Preferences

Setup for OS 10.5.x

Open System Preferences

Click on Security

Click on Firewall

Click on the + sign (bottom left of the window)

Navigate to the OSX SkyFighters 1945 wMB.app file (usually in /applications/SF1945 wMB/) and click on it

Click on Add

Make sure the column next to this is 'Allow incoming connections'

If you have SkyFighters 1918, you will need to do the same thing for that application. The only difference is the path.

Open System Preferences

Click on Security

Click on Firewall

Click on the + sign (bottom left of the window)

Navigate to the SkyFighters 1918 wMB.app file (usually in /applications/SF1918 wMB/) and click on it

Click on Add

Make sure the column next to this is 'Allow incoming connections

Router setup:

Now, if you have DSL, a cable modem, Verizon's FIOS or any other type of internet connection into your house, chances are you have a router from that company. You may also have to set up port forwarding on that router for those two ports. Long story short, the above setup allows the OS to send/receive on those two ports. The router has to know where to forward those packets coming in/out to (your Mac). If you need help with that, it can get complicated. Probably want to gather some information together and ask some questions in the SkyFighter's Hangar Chat Room, or post some questions on Don's Games Forum (but not specific info). You'll need to know the ISP involved, the router model number, and hopefully the admin username and password, as well as some IP address information. Again, don't post that specific info!
